Common questions

Where is my data stored?

On your phone only, in the app's private storage. Nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy.

How do I back up or move to a new phone?

Open Settings, choose Export, and save the backup file somewhere safe such as Files or Drive. On the new phone, install Darling, open Settings, choose Restore and pick that file. Darling checks the file and shows a summary before replacing anything.

Restore says the file is invalid or too new.

Backups are checked strictly. A file edited by hand, truncated during transfer, or made with a newer version of Darling will be refused so it can't damage your notebook. Try exporting again from the original phone, and make sure both phones run the latest version.

Reminders aren't arriving.

Check that notifications are allowed for Darling in your phone's settings, and that reminders are switched on in Darling's Settings. On Android 13 and later, also allow "Alarms & reminders" so reminders land at the exact minute; without it the system may deliver them up to an hour late. Settings in Darling shows how many reminders are currently scheduled.

A suggested category or intent is wrong.

Suggestions are computed on your phone from the words you typed and are only a starting point. Tap the label to correct it; the note is saved either way.

Can I add more than one partner, or share a notebook?

Not in this version. Darling is deliberately about one partner and lives on one phone.

How do I delete everything?

Settings has a "Delete all" action with two confirmations. Uninstalling the app also removes its data. There is no copy anywhere else.

Reporting a bug

Tell us what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. The app version is shown at the bottom of Settings. If the problem involves a backup file, describe the steps rather than sending the file, since it contains your private notes.
